The North Carolina Diagnostic Assessment and Placement Test (NC DAP) is a custom version of College Board’s ACCUPLACER. This test is used to place students into the appropriate English and/or math courses. If the scores place the student into developmental course work (courses numbered below 100), the student must complete the developmental course work before enrolling in college level English and/or math courses. There are two major components of the ACCUPLACER NC DAP – Reading/English and Math. Both components are administered on a computer.
A composite score will place students into Developmental Reading & English (DRE) or curriculum English courses. There is a two hour time limit on the essay portion of this test.
The ACCUPLACER NC DAP is offered Monday through Thursday at 9am and 2pm in Student Services. Applicants must make an appointment for the test and can do so by calling (828) 627-3613. There is no fee for test. Tutoring is available to prepare for the placement test in the Career and College Readiness Department. NC DAP review questions, as well as online Placement Test Preparation resources, are available in Learning Support Services.

TEAS Testing for Nursing Admissions
Region A Nursing Consortium (Haywood Community College and Tri-County Community College) utilizes the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) as the admissions test to enter the nursing program. The ATI TEAS exam is a computerized assessment that measures a student’s academic ability in English & Language Usage, Reading, Mathematics, and Science. It consists of 170 multiple choice questions and must be completed in three and one-half hours. If an applicant requires accommodations for the exam, he/she should contact the disabilities coordinator at (828) 627-4504 two weeks prior to the scheduled testing. The Total Adjusted Individual Score that a student receives will be reported as a percentage which will be converted to a whole number used in the scoring criteria. For example, if the applicant makes 75% on the TEAS, 75 points will be added to the Nursing scoring criteria..
The student will purchase the TEAS exam at the campus of scheduled testing. The exam will be administrated during the first week of March 2020 on the campus of scheduled testing. The TEAS exam scores will be valid for three years from the initial exam date. The TEAS exam scores will be due to Enrollment Management by April 1, 2020. It is the responsibility of the student who has taken the TEAS exam at another location or college to have those TEAS scores sent to the college by the due date. Scores from the TEAS test will be available to the Region A Nursing Consortium.
