Region A Nursing Consortium Admission Criteria for Practical Nursing Spring 2020.

The Practical Nursing curriculum provides knowledge and skills to integrate safety and quality into nursing care to meet the needs of the holistic individual which impact health, quality of life, and achievement of potential.

Course work includes and builds upon the domains of healthcare, nursing practice, and the holistic individual. Content emphasizes safe, individualized nursing care and participation in the interdisciplinary team while employing evidence -based practice, quality improvement, and informatics.

Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) which is required for practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Employment opportunities include hospitals, rehabilitation/long term care/home health facilities, clinics, and physicians’ offices.

Students seeking admission to the Diploma in Practical Nursing program must meet competitive criteria. The student must also meet specific requirements of the clinical agencies. These requirements will include but are not limited to a criminal background check, drug screen, CPR and proof of immunizations. Furthermore, a criminal background check will be required before taking the NCLEX-PN Examination leading to licensure as a Practical Nurse. The North Carolina Board of Nursing may not issue a license to an applicant who has been convicted of a criminal offense.

Admission requirement require completion of BIO-168 (Anatomy & Physiology I) and BIO-169 (Anatomy & Physiology II) for 8 credit hours. A grade of “C” or better is required for BIO-168, BIO-169 and NUR-prefix courses.
